I’ve always taken a dim view of the executive recruiting business model - because candidates are the product of this business, they lack autonomy over the way in which opportunities are presented (or withheld). Misaligned economic incentives mean that typical recruiters only care about completing the placement; they don’t have the career-long interests of candidates in mind. While there are exceptions to this characterization, today’s talent - especially underrepresented talent - don’t trust recruiters because their relationship with them is, well, transactional.
