Marissa's entrepreneurial ventures have spanned the past 20 years. In a previous life, she worked on the trading floor as an analyst and multi-lingual syndicate researcher. She left the industry after 5 years and combined her business acumen with a desire to help launch companies herself. At 25, Marissa started her first of three businesses which she was able to sell after just two years. Since then, she's been driven to create the same success for entrepreneurs and CEOs who are determined to break through their own barriers and challenge status quo as a freelance consultant. Her other businesses include the award-winning creative agency, Get Loud!, and her own consultancy, MS., and The Brave. Impact Marissa is determined to make inclusion and diversity a conversation with VCs and founders. She's devoted most of her time working in-house at VCs and PE Firms to help diversify their portfolios as well as change the conversation minority founders have around raising capital. One of her 'loudest' achievements to date is the award she won for an Interactive Campaign from The Ad Club, regarding her creative work around women and family planning.
The BraveMarissa's brainchild, The Brave, is a 3-month micro-incubator helping M/WBE founders/founding teams launch companies prior to or right after receiving funding. She's also created The Diversity Scale which transparently shares the diversity of company founders in VC portfolios, where the Open Opportunity Investor®certification is awarded based on portfolio diversification. Her consultancy, MS., is usually tapped by solo-preneurs, CEOs, and Venture Capital firms for brand positioning, marketing, management consulting, and strategy.
