Mariel is a writer working primarily in advertising, helping clients big and small develop concepts that connect with audiences thoughtfully and organically. She worked in Music Marketing for several years at Microsoft before becoming going on to help lifestyle and design e-retailer Fab.com establish the brand's unique voice and tone. After that, Mariel moved on to serve as Copy Director at Gap, and eventually decided to focus more directly on advertising as as a freelance copywriter.
Before moving into the advertising space, however, Mariel’s focus was in journalism: she is a founding editor of The FADER Magazine, and has reported for newspapers and publications including The New York Post and VOGUE.
ImpactMariel recently traveled to her native Puerto Rico on behalf of VOGUE to report on women who are helping to rebuild the island; that piece was the first in the magazine's history to be co-published in Spanish.
And while working with a wide range of advertising clients and agencies is always interesting and exciting, Mariel is especially drawn to companies who are committed to doing good in the world. She is passionate about using her unique perspective and life experiences to create work that makes people smile — and think.
Some of her recent clients include Nike, Shinola, Casper, Target and Presidente.
